The SPIGEN SGP GLAS.t Slim for Sony Xperia Z review

06_1The brooding issue of a smartphone is not of its capabilities nor is it of its price tag. It is durability. And with literally every smartphone produced nowadays, bar the Blackberry Q10, sporting the definitive all glass front panel, the possibilities of destroying your exquisite smartphone display is very much heightened. So what do you do? Obvious answer is “Get a screen protector!”. BUT, do you really want to put up with a rubbish touch surface, degraded screen quality and ease of scratch-ability? I don’t think so, but it is the only choice to protect your smartphone’s screen… until now.

Retail packaging
SPIGEN SGP’s GLAS.t screen protector is no ordinary screen protector. It isn’t made out of a sheet of thin and flimsy plastic. No. It is in fact a sheet of extremely high quality tempered, scratch proof and oleophobic glass that weighs barely anything and is only 0.26mm thick. What this means is that finally you no longer have to trade off the smoothness of gliding your finger over a sheet of glass and optical quality just to protect your screen. No longer will you have to tahan the rubbery texture and overly reflective flimsy plastic “protector”. The GLAS.t opens up a new dimension in smartphone ownership where you no longer will have to worry about scratching your display without a screen protector or be bothered by the rubbish qualities of plastic screen guards.
I have applied the GLAS.t on my Xperia Z and for about two weeks now, I haven’t had a single scratch on the GLAS.t whereas I would usually get at least one minor scratch on the plastic protectors. This not only saves me money but also saves me from the headache of having to get the protector replaced because of the scratches. Operating a GLAS.t protected device is blissful. Swiping through menus feel a lot more responsive than even the stock Xperia Z can replicate (due to the Xperia Z’s factory installed plastic shatter-proof sheet). The GLAS.t works very well even above the Xz’s shatter-proof which means that you will have no worries of having to remove the shatter-proof, which means removing the Sony logo.
Being an oleophobic coated glass, the GLAS.t repels finger prints very well and works hand in hand with the Xperia Z’s water resistant capabilities such that when you use your phone in the shower, the GLAS.t will repel off the water, enabling you to much more easily operate the device in contact with water.
Bundled in the GLAS.t’s package is the GLAS.t glass itself, a SPIGEN SGP Steinheil CRYSTAL CLEAR back protector, a micro fibre cloth, an alcohol swab and a squeegee to remove air bubbles that may form underneath the GLAS.t when applying it. I got my GLAS.t applied at p2oMobile in Singapore. I would recommend that an experienced person in applying screen protectors apply the GLAS.t for you but the process is manageable if you would rather do it yourself.
Overall, the GLAS.t is an excellent buy for just USD 34.99 at SPIGEN SGP’s website. When you factor in the savings of not having to replace your protector every month or so because of scratches and the ease of touch that will lead to an increased device usability and enjoyability, the SPIGEN SGP GLAS.t SLIM really holds up as a brilliant accessory for your beautiful smartphone.
